Hempel broke ground on its new R&D and test center.
 
Once the new state-of-the-art facility is fully operational in 2021, it will be home to 100 employees, including 40 international researchers and experts.
 
Hempel’s headquarters north of Copenhagen, Denmark will soon turn into a Hempel Campus. One building will be torn down, another remodeled, and two new buildings will see the light of day.
 
At a late November ceremony, Hempel turned the first sod on the building that will become a state-of-the-art R&D and test center.
 
The new building will combine the facilities from the current R&D and test centers and will become a global focal point for research and innovation. The vision for the new Hempel headquarters is to create the optimal conditions for Hempel to grow and develop with an emphasis on new products, new production technology, research and collaborations with leading universities.
 
In the new facility, employees will develop coatings that protect ships, bridges, wind turbines and other assets against corrosion and wear. An important part of that work is to test the protection ability of the coatings.
 
“It is crucial that we have the right facilities to maintain our position as a leading global coatings manufacturer,” CEO Henrik Andersen said. “Our vision is to grow our business globally, and our new Hempel Campus and R&D and test center play a key role in achieving this.”
